Who’s Who

We're Jessa and Nathan Turner. That's who!

We own and run HomeGrown HideAways, a hundred acre farm, lodging, and event facility in the foothills of Appalachia near Berea, the arts and crafts capital of Kentucky.

From tents to treehouses and pontoon rides to weddings, great memories start at HomeGrown HideAways.

Jessa Turner

Jessa has traversed 48 states and 8 countries in search of the ground beneath her feet. Her wings are slowly transforming into roots buried deep in her home state of Kentucky, where she graduated with a degree in Sustainability and Environmental Studies from Berea College.

Her chosen  mission is to figure out how to eat ALL the cookies and still fit through the door while perfecting a veggie burger recipe that even her carnivorous husband will eat.

Nathan Turner

Nathan is HomeGrown HideAways' jack-of-all-trades. He has a degree in Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management, but is also a Talented Tinkerer, Happy Hunter, Master Mower, Charming Chicken Chaser, and Fancy Food Farmer.

He will gladly let you escort him into the woods during mushroom season, but he probably just hopes the ticks and thorns will like you better than they like him.

If all that weren't enough, Nathan is also a member of the Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department. Lest you think they might be siblings, Nathan has somehow managed not to lose the entirety of his sanity being married to Jessa since April of 2002 (assuming he had some sanity to begin with).

I loved my stay!!! It's great to be in a remote location (I needed for my cell service and internet to be pretty unaccessible to truly unplug) but still be able to watch a little Netlix : ) And the landscape is just so beautiful. It was a wonderful place to spend a couple of days away, reading and relaxing. It feels like a new home away from home. I loved it and highly recommend!

We stayed here for the weekend while hosting our wedding on the main HomeGrown HideAways property.

A handwritten welcome note greeted us and had all the details we needed for our stay. Having a private space to escape to at the end of the night was perfect. The house was so cozy and comfortable. We slept great and were relaxed and rested for our big day. We didn't get to use the kitchen much, but it was well equipped and charming.

A true haven for the somewhat funky! Everything you need or want in a comfy cozy environment. Surrounded by pristine Earth, Air and Water…just add Fire to the creek side fire pit. And the owners….don’t get me started - simply awesome!!! Love everything about HomegrownHideaways!

Staying in Mary Ellen's cottage is a dream. The weather was perfect, so I was pretty much just outside on the swing, or hiking and exploring the creek. The garden is so beautiful. The kitchen and rest of the house are very well equipped, but I didn't need them this trip. The space would also be perfect for a rainy or snowy visit.

Is is my new favorite place to stay, unplug, and unwind. Staying at the Wabi Sabi Studio is calming but not in the least boring. Mary Ellen is an artist with both her work and those of other artists on display. The description and pictures on AirBnb are exactly what you will find when you arrive. The property has a wonderful trail and common areas where you can meet other guests. In my opinion, she could charge much more to stay at this unique property. I hope to go back soon.
